The “W” Word
Why is it
that, as soon as you mention the word wedding, suppliers and service providers feel the need to increase their prices?
I know of a number of establishments and service providers that charge around double for weddings but is it justified? Do you think that paying more for your special day is worth it to have something that you can look back on and think everything was just perfect?
The average wedding in Australia today remains between $36,200 and $54,000. Yikes!
Choice conducted a shadow shopping study which confirmed that as soon as the "W" word was mentioned, three out of six wedding service providers bumped up their prices as compared to quotes with the exact same specifications for a different type of event.
Those guilty to most likely charge more were venues, photographers, car hire and cake sales.
But how can you stop it?
There are a lot, and I mean A LOT, of people who try and cut as many costs as possible to bring their day back in line with their budget, which isn't necessarily a bad thing as long as you're still getting the best quality and you're completely happy with the end result.
I believe it's extremely important to take a step back, take in a deep breath and really look at your grand picture. Ask yourself, will I really be happy with settling for an alternative to something I reeeaaally had my heart set on or should I trust my gut and make cuts elsewhere?
The best advice I can give is to shop around. There are soooo many options available if you know where to look. Ask your friends or family if they have any suggestions or recommendations. Heck, they may even be able to help you directly or know someone who can! Ask suppliers for samples and different package options.
Search, research and trial, and the best of luck to all of you!
